Notable Events

Winning the 2016 Calgary Spartan Sprint. This was the same venue where I earned my first elite OCR podium in 2015, (2nd overall) and I really wanted to go back and get the win. I failed an obstacle early in the race (balance beam) and fell back to 8 or 9th place after the 30 burpee penalty. I had to dig real deep to come back in such a short race, and I’m proud of how I was able to stay engaged and not count myself out.

Early Memory

I broke my collarbone snowboarding in grade 9, and was forced to watch on the sidelines at the school Track and Field event as it wasn’t quite healed yet. Not content with just watching, I decided to try the high jump when no one was looking. I ended up re-breaking my collarbone and had to sit out of sports for another 4-6 weeks. Give injuries time to heal people!

Discipline equals freedom

My Name is Kristian Wieclawek, my home town is Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. I grew up playing hockey, snowboarding, mountain biking and doing a bit of running. My family was very active so I was always on move doing something. I ran my first Obstacle Course Race (OCR) in 2012, and got such a feeling of accomplishment and pride after, that I wanted to continue to do it. Fast forward to 2016 when I managed to land on the podium 4 out of 10 starts, and so far in 2017 I have earned 4 podiums out of 5 starts. Balancing a busy career as an engineer with training and being a supportive husband-to-be can be challenging at times, however, I have learned how to manage my time better by doing this. Other interests of mine include cooking, camping, snowboarding, fishing, and a good game of Frisbee on the beach.
