I grew up skating outside in Fort St. John B.C. It was often bitterly cold and extremely windy. Despite this, many of my favourite early skating memories are of bundling up in several layers of long john’s, fleece, and wind proof jackets to brave the cold outside to train at 7pm. We would have to come inside every fifteen minutes to warm up, run our frozen feet under the tap, and apply more vaseline to any exposed skin to avoid frostbite. It probably didn’t help the freezing factor that my friends and I would often race down the straightaway and then dive into the snowbanks at the end. Kids are cray.

Words To Live By
“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better” - Maya Angelou
“The thicker your thighs, the more cats you can fit on your lap.”
I started speed skating at age ten when a family friend recognized the potential in my muscular child thighs, and suggested I try speed skating. I enjoyed skating right away, but for the early years I especially looked forward to the down time between races when my friends and I would play soccer, and get up to other mischief. Now, as an adult, I love the daily challenge of trying to be the best, and take immense satisfaction in reaching my goals within skating. Every day I train to be better than the day before.
I love watching The Food Network, especially “Diner’s Drive Ins and Dives” (Triple D), and “You’ve Gotta Eat Here!”. My favourite thing to do is salivate over all of the outrageously greasy and unhealthy eats on those shows, and then create a delicious, healthy and ‘athlete approved’ version, often for a couple of my best buds. I also en joy making cards for special occasions, usually starring my signature animal, fat seals.
