Early Memory

My first time downhill mountain biking was at Silver Star Mountain Resort.  Not knowing what I was getting myself into, I wore yoga pants, a tank top and flats for shoes.  It rained all day, I was showered in mud and I went over the handlebar 3 times.  It was an interesting introduction to the sport to say the least.

My name is Darlene Paranaque and I am a mountain bike racer.  Originally from Winnipeg, I am fairly new to both biking and mountains.  I was first introduced to mountain biking three years ago in Edmonton and was instantly hooked.  The following summer I co-founded Prairie Girls Racing (prairiegirlsracing.ca) to find more women to ride with and to create a network of support for getting women into mountain bike racing, having never raced myself.  I recently moved to Canmore and am now enjoying all types of riding; steep and technical, fast and flowy, up and down, and all year round.  Aside from biking, I am a Development Planner and am completing my Masters degree in Sustainable Urban Development at Oxford University.  I also love traveling, learning, hiking, snowboarding, and creative projects.
