Early Memory
I remember going to paddling camps with my dad. We did a lot of camping and learning to paddle together in the early days. One thanksgiving we spent paddling and camping on the Thompson river in BC. For thanksgiving dinner we had burnt chilli. I don't know why but that early memory always makes me smile.

Bio
My Name is Jessica Groeneveld from Innisfail, Alberta. I am a whitewater slalom kayaker. I started paddling in 2000 with the Cottonwood Kayak club in my hometown of Innisfail, AB. I was instantly hooked on the sport, and worked my way up the National rankings until I made the National team in 2008. Whitewater slalom kayaking is so multifaceted that there is always skills to work on weather they are physical, technical, tactical, or mental. The never ending learning opportunities keep me on my toes. My dream is to compete in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio De Janerio. In addition to athletics I am pursuing some academics. My Undergraduate degree is in Kinesiology, and I plan to go on to do some post graduate studies as well. When Im not paddling or studying I like to ski (nordic, alpine and touring), cycle, cook, and spend time with family.
